Dumfries and Torronsuo - Darkroom Diaries
I'm gradually developing and printing film from our trip to Finland, as well as winter hikes around Dumfries and Galloway. All prints are from color film, and mostly Kodak Ektar, with occasional Kodak Gold roll. Shot on Hasselblad 500CM camera. Printed at Stills Darkroom in Edinburgh. Contact prints are very helpful even when scans are available. Somehow Kodak Ektar prints very differently from what I'm getting with digital scans - it looks miles better when printed. Prices f

Glencoe Valley on Kodak Ektar film - a gallery
A gallery of selected bits from Glencoe Valley - some of the most photographed locations in Scotland. Glencoe is excellent, and a joy to drive to any time of the year. All pictures here are shot on Kodak Ektar 100 film, with either Mamiya or Hasselblad cameras. And a short behind the scenes video for the above shot of the valley. If you'd like any darkroom prints, let me know at hello@alba.pictures - it is the printing season!

Outer Hebrides on 16mm cine film
A short film shot around South Uist and Benbecula of Outer Hebrides islands. Featuring this Bolex cinema camera, 2 rolls of 16mm Kodak Vision 50D film, and lots of wind. Bolex is an amazing piece of Swiss engineering, fully mechanical camera that you wind up like a clock, which gives you about 20 seconds of filming time. You might think this is a limitation, but the whole roll of 100ft film will give you about 3 mins total. And that film is not cheap. This totally makes you t

Darkroom Diaries - Jan 24th - Glencoe and Glentrool
Another session at Stills in Edinburgh with 2 rolls of Kodak Ektar and Portra contact printed. The one above is Glencoe and Glentrool shots on Mamiya RB67 camera from April 2025. A somewhat impressionistic exposure control print of a stream in Glentrool. Final proof of that shot with some technical details. Contact prints of a Portra roll from Gairloch and Highlands, also shot on Mamiya RB67. A road to Gairloch in Highlands, shot at dusk with long exposure, which you can poss

Darkroom Diaries - North Wales - January 2026
It's good to be back at Stills Centre with the colour processing printer still up and running. I have plenty of film to print. Contact prints from Hasselblad shots in Snowdonia and North Wales last December. It was raining constantly, but despite that I've managed to shoot about 5 rolls of film on Hasselblad. Waterfalls and abandoned mines of North Wales, contact printed. Trwyn Du Lighthouse at low tide. And a larger version of that lighthouse with exposure increments, shot o
